Things I had to re-learn bout the Urrree-ah

DC EBONICS DICTIONARY:


JAH, JAI, JI - short for saying "jive", means "kinda/sorta" or "very much" depending on emphasis: "She is jah phat"

CHILL MODE - calm, collected: "After school, I just be on chill mode, dawg"

LUNCHING - joking around, acting foolishly: "During my free periods, we just be walking around or straight lunching, cuz we be bored"

GUMP - a nerd and/or wimp: "I dared him to touch her butt, but he a gump"

JONING - making fun of another person: "Did u see that dude's shape-up? They was joning at the lunch table all period"

BUN - a pretty girl or attractive guy: "I was looking at you sister yesterday, and I didn't realize how much of a bun she is"

BUNNED UP-in a relationship, dating, can also be a negative comment: "He don't be coming around no more, he all bunned up now"

YOUNG, JO - equivalent to "son" or "kid" in NY; similar to "yo" in Baltimore; : "Young, I'm sick of school" or "Chill out jo...it ain`t even that serious"

YOUNGIN -same as YOUNG, can be used in the plural: "Them youngins over there are a bunch of gumps"

SHAWTY, SHAWT- means shorty which refers to a girl or woman: "Shawty phat" or "Jo shawt, why you lunching"

BLOWN - very upset/disappointed: "I was blown when she told me that"

SHAKIN' OUT-hustling on the corners, drug dealing: "Jo, he be shakin' out down on D Street with them dudes"

SMASH - have sexual intercourse: "I'm jai blown cuz I went over her house, and her moms was there, so I couldn't smash"

DAWGNUTS, DOGGPOUND - close friend, my boy: "Yeah I know Mike. We went to Jr High together. That's my dawgnuts"

SON-SON - same as "dawgnuts" and "doggpound", but normally someone younger: "Young, don't talk about Jason. That's my son-son"

SHORT - unfortunate, out of luck, in a bad situation: "I can't give you a ride, young. Either ask Chris or you short" or "If I fail this class, I'm short" or "Jo, you short son"

BAMMA - a person who's not trendy or cool, a seriously negative diss: "Look at his shape-up and his beat-up Pro Wings. He's such a bamma" or "I'ma hurt dem bammas"

CARRY - to disrespect someone: "He tried to holla at her, but she carried him and walked away" or "Young, you got straight carried"

PUNISH - to win handily; means aggressive sexual intercourse when referred to girls: "When I see shawty tonight, I'ma punish it" or "Young'in got punished in that fight"

GET YOUR MAN- highly successful with girls, in sports or a competitive situation: "Young got his man last night in the game" or "I got my man at the party", I got 5 numbers"

NO BULL, BULLSH*T, B-SH*T- to mean something truthful; equivalent to "I'm telling the truth": "Man, that's exactly what happened. No bull"

BOJANGLIN` - old school term that means playing around to the point where it is detrimental: "He real smart, but he always be bojanglin`, that's why he failed math"

SLAM - directly, to the point

STEAL - to punch, assault someone: "Young, if u don't get out my face, I`ma steal u slam in ur jaw" or "Young got stole"

KIRK - to get very mad, lose control: "If the teacher wasn't there, he woulda kirked out on that dude" or "He broke up with her and shawty kirked out"

SICED - to be excited, proud; pumped up: "He was so siced when he found out he got an A on his test" or "I'ma get him all siced up by telling him his girl is cheating"

PRESSED - to be annoying, annoyingly persistent, conceited: "He's so pressed to show his new car; I can't stand him" or "Girl he keep trying to holla, he all pressed"

CAT, CATS - a term for a guy or bunch of guys; an old school seriously negative diss: "Them cats down the block wanna run some ball with us" or "That dude is cat"

TOE UP – means "tore up", usually refers to manner of dress or not looking good: "Oh-my-god, she is toe up...I don't know why she don't git her hair done"

The DC Metro Area is made up of the District of Columbia, Prince George's County, Montgomery County and Northern Virginia. Now you know the inspiration behind Martin Lawrence and his Sheneneh Jenkins character and why she spoke the way she did. Martin is from the DC area out in Maryland or Mur-lin.
